UK Chart news – midweek update

The UK singles market looks likely to witness a five-way battle of the females for the number one spot this week, MW reports today.

Just a few hundred sales separate Shakira, Rihanna, Madonna, Lily Allen and Christina Aguilera, according to early retail reports in mid-week.

Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie” is currently leading the race and, if eventually holds on to the number one position, will see her return to number one after a three-week absence. Christina Aguilera with “Ain’t No Other Man” is now climbing into the top five after entering at #18 on downloads last week, as is Madonna’s new single from “Confessions On A Dance Floor”, “Get Together“, who is fighting for a top five placing with Kasabian’s “Empire“, that was released physically, digitally and to radio yesterday.
