Miss American Pie

Songwriter Don McLean – the laidback musician who will forever be best known for his iconic song American Pie – was delighted that Madonna decided to release a version of his song that was recently voted into the Top Five of songs of the 20th century.

“It was the biggest gift I ever got when Madonna recorded American Pie. It felt like Christmas every day that year. I hate the way she gets abused by a lot of the mainstream media. It takes a hell of a lady to do the things she’s done. I take my hat off to her.”

And where Don is concerned, that hat is undoubtedly a Stetson.
