When a die-hard Madonna fan finds himself where he never expected to be. Leander from Leander-Online shares his memories of his Madonna night in the Pit in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

After seeing a total of three Re-Invention shows it was time for my fourth and my final one.
I went to the show in London on August 19th, the show in Paris on September 4th and the first show in Arnhem on September 8th. So my final show was on September 9th, also in Arnhem.

I had my tickets for the field that I purchased months before. There was a competition on the Dutch MTV Website where you can win pit tickets for Madonna's show in Arnhem. Of course I participated. You never know, right?

It was mentioned on the site that you will get an e-mail if you won just two days before the show. Time got near. No e-mail received. I forgot that Gisela, one of my best friends, also participated with the competition.

Two days before the show we did our basic
outine, chatting on MSN.
I was saying that I have participated in several competitions and that I didn't win tickets for the dance pit. I was saying that I also didn't hear anything from MTV about the pit tickets. Gisela also participated in the MTV competition. She didn't know what kind of tickets you could win.
She was totally unaware that you could win pit tickets. I told her that you could win VIP dance pit tickets. I explained to her what kind of seats you would be having. And she was like: "Really"? I couldn't believe she didn't knew. So I said to her: "Yes, really!". I told her to go check on the MTV website.

Seconds later my phone rang and it was Gisela on the other line. She asked me if I was sure that it was a competition where you can win VIP pit tickets. I said yes. Well, I will never forget what she replied! The exact words she said were: "Then, I won two pit tickets!".

My heart stopped beating for a moment. Then I started screaming my longues out!
Gisela received an e-mail from MTV but she didn't read it! I was totally freaking out! It was like a dream come true! Gisela said that she wanted me to join her in the pit. She knows how much of a die hard fan I am. I am forever grateful. I asked her to forward the e-mail that she received from MTV, I wanted to check just in case. And yes, it was an e-mail saying that she won tickets for the pit!

The day had come! It was time to see my final Madonna concert, this time it was me in the pit! It's truly the best way to end my
Re-Invention experience.

I already had a ticket for the show. I gave that ticket to Francois, my other friend. So the three of us went to Gelredome in Arnhem and we just walked around the venue to kill time. We even enjoyed a little bit of Madonna during the sound check.

We were supposed to go to the main ticket office of the venue where Alison would meet up with the pit winners. Alison is someone who apparently is in charge for pit tickets.

Francois didn't feel like already standing in line to get into the arena, so he waited with us for Alison.

So, Francois was supposed to go alone to the show as I gave him my ticket.

But we asked the security guy, who was standing at the backstage entrance, how it all went the day before, and if it would be possible to have someone join us as we were originally with three people in total. He was kinda vague about it.

So we let the security guy ask Alison if one extra person can go into the pit! It was not a problem at all! Francois joined me and Gisela in the pit as well! You should have seen the looks on his face, so sweet! He was in awe as well. I was so happy to experience it with my two dear friends.

So after Alison divided the entire group in two she informed us about the minor rules. No pictures, no camera, no drinks, nothing. Just yourself. She gave us all a wrist band. We were escorted to the left pit, the right pit if you are looking at the stage from the front.

We walked towards our pit via backstage and it was so cool to see all the equipment and stuff, and all the tour crew who are doing their thing. I didn't spot Madonna. It was also cool to see all the other people in the audience looking at you while walking into the pit!

While we were in the pit we had to wait for about one hour and a half for the show to start. But it went by fast.
In the pit we were chatting along with other pit winners and fellow Madonna fans. It was nice to get in touch with other Madonna fans from outside the Netherlands.
We could see the other 30.000 people in the venue from the pit. I even saw a colleague of mine.

Nearly 9pm and the lights went off and the crowd went wild. Funny thing was that before the show started you hear Madonna saying: "Hi it's Madonna and I want to read you part of my new book, Mr Peabody's Apples". That was quite funny!

"Prophecy". "The Beast Within" started and I was totally hyper and so excited. I mean I was in the pit. Do you know what that means? Madonna will be so close! It was unreal! While being in the pit you can see so many things! You can even look into the stage when the center circle is lowered.

"The Beast Within" was on and it was the last time I would hear it. Every song would be the last one I would see live. I was standing against the edge of the pit. I could see everything!

When Madonna came up on stage for Vogue I was in total awe! She was so close! And that for nearly two hours! Madonna in front of you! I have no words for it. It really made me so happy!

I mean, I am a fan of Madonna since I was 5 years old and being in the pit is what it's all about. It was a dream come true. Something that a huge Madonna deserve to experience. And I will never forget it! Seeing Madonna closer than that is impossible. She came to both pits during the show from time to time. Madonna touched and grabbed my hand. I touched her leg and arm and I was in heaven! I mean, I touched Madonna! Unbelievable!

Being in the pit was the best night of my life, and not to forget the best way to close my own Re-Invention tour. It was very hot in the pit. I felt the sweat dripping down my pants. It was really hot! During "Crazy For You" I had to cry. I will never forget that evening! No one can ever take that away from me. I will remember this always.

I think about it every day! Francois and Gisela also had a blast! They were pleased to see me so happy. I have been Re-Invented one hundred percent! Ofcourse a big thank you to my friend Gisela for winning the pit tickets and for bringing me! Francois was just plain lucky! And ofcourse a big thank you to Madonna for just being the best.
