Towards the end of 2008, Madonna magazine collectors worldwide were having a field day.  Madonna had landed on more covers during the months of November and December than she had in the past several years.  Was it in celebration of Madonna turning 50?  Maybe a handful.  Well then, maybe it was in celebration of her latest tour, which became her most successful ever.  Nope, it wasn't that either.  Instead, our Lady of the Manor had become a recent divorcee and was single all over again.  Ahh!  Of course!  Now, that is indeed good enough to splash across covers from New York to London to Hong Kong.  Misery does love company, and everyone wants to soak up the sun (or clouds) of Madonna's misery.

It would be rather easy to cast off Madonna now that she's no longer married eh?  She is, after all, the black widow that sucks up everything good from those around her.  Madonna has no heart (or talent for that matter---but let's get back to her lack of heart).  She deserves the drama of the rocky divorce she's experienced thus far.  Her love is only devoted to the spotlight and nothing, or anyone, else.  Sorry Lola, Rocco, and David…but mommy only cares about one person, and one person only---herself.  At least that's what the press would like us to believe according to the scathing articles written about Madonna's divorce beginning last year, and continuing to be written today.

Let's also not forget about Mr. Ritchie. As the British press put their golden boy on a pedestal of righteousness and dignity, Madonna became the demonic wife. Madonna demanded that Guy live with her under extraordinary circumstances that made him miserable.  Why did Guy stick around then?  Of course, it was for the children. Isn't it always for the children?  Apparently, Guy did no wrong in their marriage.  He was the utmost example of a devoted husband and father.  Madonna was the psychotic, demeaning spouse who cared more about her fame than her family.

If all this were to be true, we'd have a pretty horrible human being walking our celebrity planet.  But, that really isn't the case here.  Madonna has her faults just like anyone else. She's not an angel by any means, but who among us can say we are?  She is obviously obsessed with fame, attention, and a strenuous work ethic that rivals Olympians.  But, the character slandering that Madonna has experienced from the press lately is not only unfair---it's just plain mean.

Yet, through all of this, you don't see Madonna bat an eye. You don't see Madonna in a press interview on 20/20, crying her eyes out, and asking the press to leave her alone.  None of us on here have seen her shying away from public events. She hasn't done any press junkets capitalizing on the attention from her divorce either, as so many celebrities seem to love doing.  In fact, Madonna has barely said a word.

Guy Ritchie's camp, on the other hand, has been quite curious on their end. While Guy has barely uttered a word to the press, his father has had no qualms about insulting Madonna. For a woman he once seemed to adore, his recent remarks seem a bit odd. Apparently, like most men who feel threatened by a woman, his way of fighting back is to call her old, ugly, and evil.  Nice going pops! Guy's dad has truly shown the kind of class and respect that only the drunkest of men can achieve.

All of this, of course, provides terrific press fodder. Considering her Guy and have been apart for well over a year at this point (according to the ever "reliable" press sources), she's held a pretty brave face for some time now. The press would love nothing more than for the brave face to crash.  If Madonna were to go on some drunken rampage at her and Guy's old abode, the Punchbowl, the press would be in absolute heaven.  Alas, no heaven for the ever-positive press. Madonna hasn't given them one single thing they can use against her (besides her new cheekbones of course).  Instead, she launched a world tour that had her playing to one stadium after another of people who seemed to care less whether she was married or not.  They just wanted to see Madonna do what Madonna does best: perform like no one else can.

At the end of the day, the marriage and divorce is just going to be a blip on Madonna's ever-successful career.  For better or worse, people will forget Madonna once married.  Honestly, who ever remembers Madonna and Sean Penn were once husband and wife?  Instead, they'll be thinking about whether Madonna's latest record sucked or not, and whether her last show justified the insane price they paid.  That's just fine with Madonna of course.  After all, she lost boatloads of money in the divorce.  We, the fans, are there to make up for it…and year after year…we gladly do so.
