Quotes on Madonna: Street-smart Madonna
Madonna"Madonna is very crafty. She’s street-smart. The video directors who did the best work with her - romantic, amazing stuff like what Jean-Baptiste Mondino did - were the ones she allowed to take risks and the ones who made videos she would throw herself into."

Director David Fincher - the man behind what we can easily consider among the best Madonna videos of all times, in an interview by Stephen Rebello on Playboy magazine.

"I made commercials to make money, but I did music videos as a kind of film school. I learned that the way to be with Madonna was to follow her impetus, because the artist in a music video is not only the star but also the studio. I could say to Madonna, “I need you to do it again. I need you to stop blinking. I need you to get your fucking chin down. And I need you to be better.” Whether it was Madonna, Brad Pitt or Ben Affleck, I’m well aware that the work got financed because of them. But they needed to know I had to get them off their mark, get them to a place where it might get warm, because there might be friction."

Madonna in the Vogue Italia 50th Anniversay Issue
MadonnaVogue Italia is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month, and the iconic magazine didn't only bring 50 top models posing together in a single shot by the one and only Steven Meisel on its special cover - it also celebrates those Women who are the Queens of Fashion and for which fashion itself was born and exist.

Models, actresses, artists, socialites, royalty, singers - Icons, in a single word - they are all part on the massive Vogue Italia Archive feature of this highly collectable issue.

Madonna deserved of course her own spot - and MadonnaTribe got in touch with freelance writer Paolo Armelli to ask him what it felt like celebrating the Queen of Pop in this special anniversary.

"It was an honour for me to work with the journalists at Vogue Italia in such a special occasion, the 50th anniversary of the widely and internationally recognized Italian Fashion Bible," Armelli explains.

"Their idea was to collect the female icons that made the history of fashion and style in the last 50 years and who obviously appeared on the magazine.

Madonna was of course one of them, so I asked to write about her. They were so kind to let me do this and I was thrilled to put on paper Madonna's chamaleonic and groundbreaking approach to fashion and fame.

Her pictures taken by Herb Ritts for Vogue Italia in 1990 are pure avant-guard, perfectly representing her stunning approach to style.
This celebrative issue of Vogue Italia is monumental and worth collecting it: a voyage in half a century of glamour, beauty and fashion. In which Madonna was one of the absolute and more recognizable protagonists."

Vogue Italia No. 769 - Sept. 2014 - Anniversary Issue is out now.

MadonnaTribe: You Are The One and Shame
MadonnaMadonna hardcore fans are well aware of the online leaking happened a couple of weeks ago of two unreleased Madonna demo songs from the Erotica album: You Are The One and Shame.

Sometime ago we had a chance to talk to Tony Shimkin, co-producer and co-author of some of the Erotica's greatest songs, and we asked him a couple of tidbits about these two unreleased songs.

"Right, there were two song we did that were not released. You Are The One and Shame", Tony explains to us.

"You Are The One was an uptempo song and it was very catchy, one true thing is that Madonna never came up with any forgettable melodies. Unfortunately not every song always makes it onto the final CD. Maybe one day she will release a collection of unheard songs but I doubt it. I still have a cassette copy of those early demos. I gotta transfer it to digital one day for posterity.

Shame was extremely hooky as well, although the chorus may have been a little too close in melody to another song with the same title, yet it was still very much in keeping with the rest of the material recorded and yes her alter ego of Dita may have been born out of that song as well.

Get Ready for #MadonnaDay !
MadonnaFrom Madonna.com:

Madonna fans! On August 16th, we'll be celebrating The Queen of Pop's Birthday and we want for you all to join the party!

Back in September 2013, Madonna launched her Art For Freedom platform for all of us to share our own definition of Freedom but also to encourage creative expression that brings awareness to human rights violations. With thousands of submissions, (including photos, videos, music and poetry) the project has grown into a strong online community fighting for the universal right to be free.

Since the initiative is a cause close to Madonna's heart, we would like for you to wish her a Happy Birthday by adding your stone to the Freedom building! To do so, just visit artforfreedom.com before August 15 at 11am EST and submit a picture that illustrates your own vision of what our world should be all about if we all had the same rights and freedom to be who we are. The picture can be a portrait, a landscape, a selfie, or whatever you think it should be. Make sure to include a description and feel free to add your Birthday message for Madonna as part of it.

On August 16th, we invite you to post your submitted picture to your favorite social network(s), using the #MadonnaDay and #ArtForFreedom hashtags for your friends, fellow Madonna fans, our girl herself and the whole world to see! Some of Madonna's favorite pics will be highlighted on artforfreedom.com and/or be mailed branded goodies :)

Happiness, love, joy, peace, etc,.. Let's make your picture something that will bring a smile to Madonna's face and make her feel we are all one on her special day!

Madonna's statement following her Detroit visit
MadonnaMadonna visited Detroit yesterday in an effort to participate in the rebuilding of the city and to connect with her hometown.

During her visit, she spent time at the Detroit Achievement Academy - a public charter primary school, Ponyride - a social impact incubator, the Heidelberg Project, the Downtown Youth Boxing Gym and the Dime Music School. She released the following statement following her visit:

"Many people doubt that Detroit can come back and think that the challenges are too overwhelming to overcome. But what I witnessed today is the true story of Detroit - a city of innovation, commitment, perseverance, imagination and opportunity. The entrepreneurs, artists, activists, teachers and children I met today left me incredibly inspired. I appreciated every minute of it and look forward to helping make the future of Detroit brighter."

Love, Muriel
Madonna"Yes, David helped me decorate my homes in New York and London. Yes, he built beautiful handcrafted furniture for me. Yes, he found gorgeous linens and silks in Greece, Italy and Thailand and brought them back to transform into curtains or reupholster an odd set of chairs. Yes, he took me to antique shops in Paris and turned me on to the most exquisite Fornasetti lamps.

And then there was his infectious appreciation for the subtle beauty of every gradation of blue. When I think of David, I think of blue. Then again, when I think of David, I feel blue – because I miss him! I'm always in desperate need of his advice, input and direction.

When I look around my houses in New York or London, I am struck by what an influence he has had on me. He has left his souvenirs everywhere: his touch, his taste, his flair and his blue.

He has influenced the way my homes look, of course, but he's had a much bigger impact on my life.

Nevertheless, he showed up when I was feeling lonely and working in London for a long period of time without a single friend to drink with, gossip with or cry on the shoulder of. At that time, I saw London as a bleak, grey place, full of men-only pubs, bad food and a culture I could not appreciate or access.

Now don't get your knickers in a twist all you Brits, because obviously I don't feel the same way any more. But at the time, London and Londoners were foreign and unfamiliar, and my time there felt like a prison sentence.

That is, until David walked into my life - or should I say swanned in... looking dapper of course. This handsome Irish fellow with strawberry blonde hair, nerdy glasses and trademark blue suit changed my life."

This is an excerpt of what Madonna wrote as the foreword to "Abcdcs: David Collins Studio", the new hard-cover monography about the work of her late friend David Collins, the Irish architect and interior designer who re-shaped some of the most intrigueing interiors of the past decades, from private houses to luxury resorts.

Abcdcs: David Collins Studio, by David Collins with a foreword by Madonna, is published by Assouline next month.

A statement from Madonna
MadonnaStatement from Madonna:

"I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N word on Instagram. It was not meant as a racial slur.. I am not a racist. There's no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention.. It was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white. I appreciate that it's a provocative word and I apologize if it gave people the wrong impression. Forgive me."

Madonna joins the fight for LGBT Equality
MadonnaMadonna has graciously joined thousands of others from around the world to be part of the #LoveConquersHate campaign - standing in solidarity with LGBT people in Russia. Read her inspiring note:

"Love conquers hate." It's an iconic message that the Human Rights Campaign's members and supporters have spread to millions around the United States.

But right now in Russia, LGBT people and our allies who support basic fairness and dignity face a different reality. They are being targeted by hateful new laws that outlaw support for LGBT equality. Even with the 2014 Sochi Olympics just a few months away, fair-minded Russians are facing fines, harassment, and violence at the hands of thugs.

At this dangerous moment in Russian history, we as advocates have a responsibility to speak up and take our hopeful message global. That's why I'm joining HRC's Love Conquers Hate campaign, in hopes that more and more fair-minded people around the world will stand up and fight against the Russian government's campaign of hate.

Right now, you can send that message directly to the Russian people and provide much-needed support to LGBT advocates in Russia by purchasing the Russian-language Love Conquers Hate t-shirt. And once you have your t-shirt, share a picture of yourself wearing it on social media using #LoveConquersHate. With your help, we can make this simple message go global.

Make no mistake about it: the goal of these hateful laws is to leave LGBT Russians feeling isolated. Worthless. Completely alone.

Together, we can send a message to LGBT Russians that the world is on their side, and that those who seek to support them aren't alone in this fundamental fight for fairness.

It's time for love to conquer hate everywhere, for everyone. I hope you'll stand with me in this fight.

If you're looking for a way to provide badly needed support for the LGBT community in Russia, please consider purchasing the Russian version of HRC's iconic Love Conquers Hate t-shirt. All net proceeds support LGBT advocates in Russia.

Stand in solidarity with LGBT people in Russia and around the world by posting your photo on Instagram with the hashtag #LoveConquersHate. Learn more about HRC's fight for LGBT equality in Russia at www.hrc.org/Russia.

Madonna visits J/P Haitian Relief Organization in Haiti
MadonnaFrom Madonna.com:

J/P Haitian Relief Organization, along with founder and CEO, Sean Penn, welcomed Madonna and her son, Rocco, to the J/P HRO-managed Petionville Camp in Port-au-Prince, Haiti earlier this week where she witnessed firsthand J/P HRO's progress in the Haiti reconstruction effort. During their visit, Madonna toured the J/P HRO camp, where there are now less than 2,000 residents in the once tent-city of 60,000 internally displaced citizens, and met with senior program managers, visited its medical facilities, community center and engineering projects and spent time at a J/P affiliated school to connect with students. She also took a tour of the site of the national palace, which J/P HRO cleared last year, and then visited the slums of Cite Soleil.

Through Instagram, Madonna engaged fans in her experience in Haiti, posting photos of the country's inspiring children and various locales such as the beach of Ile-a-Vache, an island off the southwestern peninsula of Haiti. She encouraged fans to support J/P HRO programs which provide health care, education, construction and the safe return to permanent housing for displaced earthquake survivors residing in the Petionville Camp. This week, Penn launched his own Instagram to raise awareness of J/P's continuing efforts in Haiti: instagram.com/seanpenn.

"The progress that has been made in Haiti is extraordinary, but it's clear there is so much more to be done," said Madonna. "I'm very inspired by J/P HRO's dedication and long-term commitment to the families and children of Haiti. What Sean and his organization have done is truly remarkable. They are paving the way to a brighter future for thousands of people. It's vital that the world stays on course with the reconstruction of Haiti."

"I was very proud to introduce Madonna and her son to the work we are doing in Haiti," said Sean Penn. "It is my hope that more people will visit Haiti and see for themselves the beauty, spirit and potential of this great country."

Madonna's Ray of Light Foundation is expected to join forces with J/P HRO on their continuing support for the citizens of Haiti. Details will be announced at a later date.

While the names of Tony Ward, Udo Kier, Keith Carradine, Justin Timberlake, Mike Myers and even Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone may come instantly to mind when thinking of the Material Girl's videoclip co-stars, and no matter how familiar the faces of the tour dancers that featured in videos such as "Vogue", "Don't Tell Me" and "Hung Up" are, Heath brings you an in depth look at more hunks and hotties that filled her videos from "Burning Up" to "Girl Gone Wild".

MadonnaTribe: Happy 30 anniversary to The First Album
Madonna30 years ago today, on July 27th 1983, a young and talented girl released her first album on the Sire Records label. The album was selftitled and it contained the music that sterted it all.

Madonna, the first album, was primarily recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in New York City and it was produced by Warner Bros producer Reggie Lucas.

The songs contained in the album, that was originally to be called Lucky Star, are only eight and they are pretty extended. The funny thing is that the main hit off "Madonna", the joyful Holiday was not even included in the original plan, but was a song, written by Curtis Hudson and Lisa Stevens of the pop group Pure Energy, that her boyfriend DJ at the time, John "Jellybean" Benitez, discovered after being turned down by Phyllis Hyman and Mary Wilson, of the The Supremes.

With the global success of Madonna in 1985, this album was repackaged and rereleased as The First Album in Europe and it gave Madonna funs multiple moments of joy thought the years with the melancholic Borderline, the poppy Lucky Star, the sexy Physical Attracion and the ultimate dance anthem Holiday.

In 2008 Entertainment Weekly named Madonna - The First Album as the fifth of Top 100 Best Albums of Past 25 Years.

Today we invite you to put that cd on the player, or load those 8 mp3's on your phones and relive a magic moment of Madonna history, the one that started it all!

Happy birthday First Album!

Madonna"We were at a party for Madonna’s last album and I was like, You guys should have produced this! Why did that not happen? Madonna and the robots would have been unbelievable! They were like, We’re working on something. I said, Whatever you do, call me - I’ll play tambourine on it. They looked at each other and they were like, We’ll be in touch."
