First Look: David LaChapelle explains how he Hung Up on Madonna
First LookAs MadonnaTribe longtime readers know, the name of director David LaChapelle was originally attached to Madonna's "Hung Up" video. On this week's episode of the "Yann Calls..." webseries, LaChapelle finally talks about what happened on the shoot and why the project didn't go ahead - and explains how the Queen of Pop taught him a life lesson after all.

"You know, I gotta thank her because honestly I've never said no to a job before." he explains. "We were in pre-production for the video 'Hung Up' when she was screaming at me. (...) I had just finished the documentary 'Rise' and I had really worked so hard. That film opened theatrically all over the world and I had just come from that junket. I was tired."

"I wanted all my life to do a Madonna video. When she was screaming at me on the phone, I couldn't take it. (...) The song was good and everything was in place. We were doing the job and I remember that being so mean. The shoots were always so stressful with her, when we did photoshoots. I thought God I can't go through this. I just hung up the phone. I got very quiet because she was yelling at me. I put the phone down. I hung it up. It was a cellphone actually. My agent was sitting beside me and you know, Macaulay Culkin in 'Home Alone'? She's like 'You hung up on Madonna?' and the funny thing was the song was 'Hung Up'. (...)"

"I'm not here to judge her. Everything in life is a lesson to me. That's how I look at it. Honestly, it was the first time I said no. She gave me a gift, in a sense, because from that moment on I realized I didn't have to do everything. I was working all my life out of fear because I didn't finish High School. I didn't have a diploma. My mom said I was going to be homeless when I was a kid and I believed her. I thought so too. (...) I finally said no and nothing bad happened. So I started saying no more and more which led me to stopping all together working for magazines and celebrities. I still shoot celebrities, but it's rare. When it happens is for a reason. Right now I'm focusing on the fine art work. In a way, Madonna, that experience with her was kind of a catalyst. So I should be grateful."

"Yann Calls..." is a webseries where Brazilian artist Yann video-chats with different artists. Some of the guests have been Dita Von Teese, Kathy Griffin and Adore Delano, Bianca Del Rio & Courtney Act from RuPaul's Drag Race.

In the video below, LaChapelle also talks about working with Andy Warhol, the reason why he decided to drop everything and move to Hawaii, and also how was working with artists such as Michael Jackson, Britney Spears and Whitney Houston.

First Look: Madonna on ''Now That's What I Call 30 Years''
Live from the UKA Madonna song will appear for the first time ever on "Now That's What I Call Music" when the UK compilation series celebrates its 30 years with a special 3-CD set later this month.

"Now That's What I Call 30 Years" will be released on May 27, 2013 and Madonna's "Into The Groove" is track 2 on the first disc of the collection.

This is the first time Madonna to appear on this long running series, while she did appear on the Hits collections that were part of the Warner family in the past. For "Into The Groove" to appear on this UK series is somewhat misleading as it hints she appeared on an earlier album, for which she has not.

Nonetheless, as the 3-disc set is filled with 60 uber-popular anthems from the past three decades, from "Billie Jean" to "Gangnam Style", we're more than happy that the Queen of Pop is not being missed. Click the Full Article link below for the complete tracklisting.

Special thanks to our longtime Forum member and contributor billyboyz.

First Look: Madonna: A Transformational Exhibition
Live from MexicoA new multi-media exhibition featuring never-before-seen Madonna photographed in her iconic 1980s street style by celebrated photographers Richard Corman and George DuBose debuted last night at W Mexico City.

The traveling exhibit combines music, photography and pop culture, and has been transformed during the launch event by famed New York City street artist Alec Monopoly with his signature style. The exhibition will then travel around the globe making stops at W Hotels worldwide, including the locations in Singapore, Paris, Bangkok, Hong Kong and New York City. At each stop along the global tour, New York City street artist Alec Monopoly will transform the photos live using his graffiti style artistry, featuring his signature ‘Monopoly Man’ tag.

Vincent Gillet, Global Brand Leader, W Hotels and Le Méridien said that the company is "delighted to partner with vitaminwater and Rock Paper Photo on this exclusive exhibition that celebrates music and fashion, two of the W brand’s core passions. Madonna is one of the industry’s biggest icons, and through this innovative partnership, we’re able to create a truly exclusive experience that gives our jet-setting guests insider access to never-been-seen-before photographs of the Queen of Pop.”

“This incredible exhibition personifies style, cachet and personality - a perfect fit what we stand for as a brand,” added Rodolfo Echeverria, vice president of global active lifestyle beverages, Coca-Cola. “We’re thrilled to partner with W Hotels and Rock Paper Photo to give our drinkers around the globe an intimate peek at one of the greatest pop stars of our time.”

As part of the exhibition, Rock Paper Photo together with Corman, who has photographed the likes of Nelson Mandela, Kurt Vonnegut, and Keith Haring, will reveal never-before-seen portraits of Madonna shot in New York City, also the birthplace of W Hotels. Featuring the music icon’s signature 80s street style, this is the first time that several of Corman’s photographs will be revealed to the public. The photographs have been curated by Rock Paper Photo, the ultimate online fine art photography gallery, founded by Live Nation Entertainment and Madonna’s longtime manager, Guy Oseary.

“Madonna was an Original,” said Richard Corman. “No one at that time had the look, the talent and the relentless attitude and fortitude to move her style forward at all costs. These images [represent] her fearlessness and charismatic bravado that to this day credits her with changing the course of Pop Culture.”

Madonna: A Transformational Exhibition is now open at W Mexico City and will make month-long stops at W Singapore - Sentosa Cove on October 20, W Paris – Opera on November 14 and W Bangkok, W Hong Kong and W New York - Times Square later this year.

Thanks to Kevin and Alex.

First Look: New 3 Album Boxset from France
The Immaculate CollectingThe 3 album boxset you heard about it first on our MadonnaTribe News page en Français last June has finally hit the stores!

The nice digipack is a French-only release collecting the "Madonna", "True Blue" and "American Life" albums. As you can see in the images below - click to zoom - unlike the current pressings, the bonus remixes are missing from the "Madonna" & "True Blue" remastered CDs - which makes this even more appealing for completist collectors.

"American Life" looks a bit as a weird choice, with "Like A Virgin" possibly being a more logical choice as third CD in the package.

The boxset doesn't come with any booklet and retails for 9.99 € only.

This new release is part of a Rhino serie including Alanis Morissette, Aretha Franklin, ZZ Top, Miles Davis, Van Halen, Les Ramones, YES, Faith No More and Morcheeba.

Special thanks to our Team member Sam.

First Look: New Tel Aviv map with updated stage design
A MadonnaTribe FirstThe design of the Madonna Tour stage in Tel Aviv has been heavily debated in these pages over the past weeks, for being the first one that was described in details by the local concert promoter at the time the 2012 tour was announced, and for being the first one to show the "hovering satellite" stage layout and not that with the triangular pit area.

For weeks, we were uncertain about the "V shaped" design being the one used for all the tour dates, and we were left speculating about one layout being developed for the stadiums, and another for the arenas.

Even when Madonna's manager Guy Oseary clearly stated that they were going to have a pit on each and every date, some ticket vendors continued using maps using the single catwalk design, but now the second Israeli dates will probably set all rumours to quiet, because as you can see by the image below that MadonnaTribe can share with the fans, the map of the Ramat Gan Stadium has now been updated with the latest version of the stage - the same that was used in the seat plans for the NIA in Birmingham.

Check out, in the image below, the previous design for the first concert in Tel Aviv on May 29, with the single catwalk and the satellite stage, and the new one on the right, from the May 31 show, with the V shaped design and the pit.
