Live in Bucharest: Parc Izvor - review and pictures by Patlagik
M-Tribe Community member Patlagik was at the Sticky & Sweet Tour concert in Bucharest last night and here are his images and his review of the show.
"I arrived at Parc Izvor at 3 PM. There were three entrance points and I chose the one closest to the stage. There were approx. 30 fans already waiting on the grass. Even though barriers were set up, they didn't allowed us to queue until 4 PM. Even though they said they will let us in the venue at 5:30 PM, and eventually we got in at 6:30 PM, right after Madonna finished her sound check."
"Paul Oakenfold was on at approx. 8:15 PM. His set was fun and the people from the front started jumping and singing. He also played his remix of Celebration. At a moment I was... let's say surprised: one of the dancers started running on the stage wrapped in plastic bubbles.A fter Oakenfold finished we waited another hour for the queen to arrive. She was very late: the show started at 9:50 PM. Sweet Machine was on and I couldn't hear nothing because everybody was screaming so loud... it was incredible!!!"
"She looks so fresh and young. I heard that the people that were on Pitch A, Pitch B and VIP were like dead people. As for the Golden Circle - everybody was singing, screaming and jumping."
"Madonna was very chatty: she said "Hello Romania" during Beat Ges On and said "Romania" and "Bucuresti" many times. It was funny to hear her saying "Bucuresti" (Romanian) instead of "Bucharest" (English)!"
"At the beginning of "You Must Love Me" she talked about how racism is very spread in Eastern Europe and that the people should have equal rights. After that (or before - don't remember because of the excitement) many people from Gold Circle raised a A4 paper sheets with "Romania loves you" written on it. She replied with "I love you too" and then everybody started screaming! Just before the ending of "You Must Love Me", me and a girl started to scream "We love you" and in the next second everybody started screaming the same thing! At the end of "Give It 2 Me" she jumped off the stage - everybody was singing and jumping!"
"In conclusion it was an incredible show - a show that can only be surpassed by a new Madonna show!"
Thanks to Patlagik. Check out the full size version of his images and the complete set of 26 files at our Tour Galleries, click on the preview pics above to get there now.
Live in Bucharest: Madonna on the discrimination of Gypsies
Some concertgoers made their displeasure known with Madonna yesterday night in Bucharest after she spoke out against the discrimination of Gypsies in eastern Europe during her Sticky & Sweet concert in Park Izvor.
Madonna paused in the two-hour concert in Bucharest to say that Gypsies, also known as Roma, were discriminated against in eastern Europe. She said that made her "sad" and nobody should be discriminated against.
"It's been brought to my attention that there's a lot of discrimination against Romani and Gypsies in general in eastern Europe, and that makes me very sad," she told the crowd of 60,000. As she spoke, a vocal minority began booing her words. She did not acknowledge the jeers.
When she proclaimed, "We believe in freedom and equal rights for everyone!", you can actually here people yelling "No!", however the cheers of approving fans eventually drowned out the grumbling.
Roma musicians and a Roma dancer were featured in her show, held just yards from the giant palace of ex-communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. Their performances were applauded by the crowd.
There are officially some 500,000 Roma in Romania, but the real number could be around 2 million. They face prejudice and discrimination in Romania and other east European nations.
