American Life added to the Great River Regional Library collection
Jessica Simpson’s “Irresistible,” Lenny Kravitz’s “Mama said,” and Madonna’s “American Life” will be added to the Great River Regional Library’s CD collection thanks to a class-action lawsuit against major record companies.
The library system received 48 CDs as the result of a lawsuit about alleged price-fixing. The lawsuit was settled in September 2002 with the stipulation that $75.7 million worth of CDs be given to libraries, schools and nonprofit groups.
The CDs will hit library shelves in a couple of weeks and will be spread throughout the library’s 32 branches.
The lawsuit, filed by 40 states, accused music labels and retailers of conspiring to set prices as a way of helping record stores compete with mass merchants such as Circuit City, Target and Wal-Mart that have grabbed a growing share of CD sales.
